View Full Version : Sound becomes really tinny and low quality

Been getting this problem a few times lately. I'll start up UT, and from the word go the sound quality is appalling, sounding tinny and crackly until I end the session. Restarting UT doesn't seem to work, and yet rebooting my computer does the trick. Not sure if it's something I've download lately, because I haven't changed anything on my PC that should affect the audio. Help or suggestions much appreciated, sorry for my recent influx of whining about problems!

a partial fix (but it sucks sometimes): don't move your mouse while starting UT.
a real fix: open your UnrealTournament.ini, find "Latency" (not SimLatency) and change it to 60

it should fix your problem, if not, tell me what OS are you using or try OutputRate=22050Hz and is ok, problems are welcome

Used to have this issue....it's with galaxy. something that processes the sound....usually a close and restart of the game resolves the issue as far as I know it's not an issue that is actually totally repairable..

--- Updated ---

Having said that though, ACE itself does work to fix the sound...

Latency setting (Preferences>Audio>Latency>60) is a good change, why use 22? I use 44.1 and surround and it does it to me to now and then. Oddly I think the moving the mouse while starting UT might actually be why (or minimizing it to finish checking mail) LOL.

Well, I also have the CTF/DM EAX update installed too...if you want to install click [HERE] (https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=fb616dd5130ac6cc&resid=FB616DD5130AC6CC!484&parid=root) then open PATCHES folder > download '15f. uteaxdm.exe'

pulseaudio can also cause this, though that's a Linux (usually Ubuntu or Mint) issue.

I had this all the time, changing the latency to at least 50 fixed it for me, not had it for months now.

The full Creative labs patch consists of 3 files
eaxutsys.exe (The patch)
uteaxdm.exe (EAX profiles)
uteaxctf.exe (EAX profiles)

I would advise making sure your Motherboard chipset and audio drivers are as up to date as posssible, then run the DirectX runtime installation for the latest update of that.

Then install the OldUnreal Media Patch. This will give you the choice of also using the more modern OpenAL and FMOD renderers.
If you have good native AL/EAX support then use OpenAL
OpenAL - Oldunreal-Wiki (http://www.oldunreal.com/wiki/index.php?title=OpenAL)

I have a repackaged version of the "OMP" on the UT page at MyUnreal, as their pack was a little out-dated.
I'm going to swap it for 1 with better/fixed int files later, and tidy it a little.

....Done. new file up.

Indeed, configuring your 5.1 or 7.1 is not simple. I have 7.1 3D/CDEAX and I had to use the file located at THIS (http://utdatabase.99k.org/updates.html) location, which has served me well. Even helped me configure the speakers I have hanging over my head too. There is an assortment of downloads available for UT here.
