Not sure if we have any tennis fans around these parts, but yesterday Andy Murray of Scotland/UK won Wimbledon, the first Brit in 77 years to achieve the feat. Considering the history of tennis and how great of a sport it is, as an avid sports fan I would actually rank yesterday as one of the greatest days in the modern sports era.

Congrats to all in the UK who have yearned for this moment and all Murray fans. I've been a fan of his since he broke into the scene back in '06, loved his grit and grind it out style. He and Djokovic are producing some real classics these days. What a treat for tennis. GG

That was fleece.

On a more serious note: Tennis died with Federer's decline.

How disappointing...tennis is one of the few real sports that exist. But who am I to post about that on an unreal forum. :)

Tennis died with Federer's decline.

Straight from the Swissman. Would expect nothing less. :)

Not sure how dead it is, the Novak vs Murray rivalry will be up for a few years, while some interesting players are raising such as Raonic, Dimitrov, Janowicz, Gulbis when hes not a dickhead, etc.
PS: WIN SOMETHING WAWRINKA DAMN IT

Stan lacks the winner mentality and he's getting old too. Nadal is obviously in decline too and same can be said for Djokovic. That's why someone like Murray managed to grab another Grand Slam.
There are many promising players but no one plays such a flashy and yet effective game like Federer did at his best.

Gotta love that name, first and last.

Tennis isn't dead at all. Rivalries have been off the charts for the last several years after Federer's prolonged run. At least Fed got one French. 8 French's for Nadal are you serious. It's pretty much been the top four (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray) and then everyone else for the last few years. Those guys are at such an elite level, especially conditioning just unbelievable.

Started siege as Novak right after he won Wimbledon in '11 and became world #1 for the first time, you can check the records on that. Respect the wooden tennis racket.

True but really I mean how many Federers really come along. Many say he is the greatest ever. Dude has wicked style and swagger and some real nice marketing and endorsements over the last several years, at least in the US. Many Americans who aren't into tennis enjoyed watching him at his peak; he was that good.

Right. Actually Murray was *not* the first Brit to win in 77 years. Virginia Wade won the ladies singles in the 1977, or maybe women aren't classed as being people too. She seems to have been written out the tennis history books.

Stand corrected on that slip. Meant first British male.

I wasn't having a go at you though. It was all over the news and everywhere about first Brit for 77 years.
