View Full Version : How would Butchered be 4 way?

Need ideas on how butchered should look like in 4 way since a lot of people are asking for it. Simplex turned out pure shit, but i want butchered to be awesome! so where should the 4 bases be, how should mid look like, what should deleted or changed or added. heres a top layout of the whole map in grid mode.

purple = movers.
blue = a solid figure, like a brick or box.
yellow = a room, hallway, open space.
green = the flag thing in mid that you can walk through.

In my mind the map would not be named Butchered-4way unless you made a basic 4way version like Bathrooms-4 like banny said. I see calling it something like ReButchered or something with the name Butchered in it and maybe create a new idea that integrates a lot of the familiarity and tactics of the two-way Butchered, but a new map that is enjoyable and has its own character, if that makes sense. Some new hallways or battle areas that come into play between 2-3 teams, obviously keeping the integrity of the 4way battle for mid in such a scenario. But it would be different or else maybe a little silly (since exiting your right hallway would basically put you at enemy's entrance; just too easy).

just extend the middle and duplicate the whole map and flip 90 degrees if you want the easy way.

don't release it, fix the banners, don't use ancient textures use the one in 4thorn. Also blue banner in the green base, wtf? Also close the hallways, imo, delete unnecessary polygons. Finally i believe to get the mid spawn you should piston, not run on the ramp. By the way so many spots to camp

Search for 4thorn in your textures folder , there is a green banner

no its not took me a couple of minutes also it would feel like an andaction feeling. Also have you even thought of scenarios? It's not tight it's really wide open but yet are corners where you can camp and could get a rampage or so

good job zac. i liked the map. few things i want it to be changed are

1. the left high entrance is too wide, make it small

2. add some lights in right high.


rest i can't say till it is pugged

why are you two talking about a green banned when in shots original post it states a BLUE banner?..lol


either way 'Zac dont let any comments about what you should and shouldn't do with a map affect your judgement or if you should continue when people bitch (especially seeing as suddenly everyone becomes experts yet don't build or edit maps of their own.... go figure), not saying people are bitching, just if they do ;)

You are the one investing your time to try and bring fresh maps or map changes to the game, mappers are rare now just like developers, so if anyone has a go about how you should change a map then politely tell them to go fuck themselves TY :D

as for making butchered 4 way, that is fairly easy, you remove all actors apart from lighting, highlight half of the map as far as between the two sets of stairs, pretty much spot on where mid spawns, drag that down out of the way and then remove the other half of the map you haven't touched, you may need to replace a few brushes but nothing major.

those will not work because they are not .pcx, not indexed colored, and not in the right size parameters ( 256x256 ) :/
@FLUKE i havent been looking at this post or even looking at the map because no ones being specific at all, and plus ive been working on a project thatll be a surprise ( not related to ut :/ ) but yeah what ill fix is these things below...
1. Fix the banners and change them to something that wont make shotman have a fucking OCD fit.
2. Fix the lighting a little bit, my UT and editor are a little bright together so the lights kinda ' fit ' together so a light red looks kinda ugly :/ and i dont wnat to make it too dark and red to make peoples eyes bleed
3. make the ' left high ' entrance narrower
4. make this tight, not even 4000 uu's long map not campable
oh yeah @FLUKE i dont understand what you mean...

You're a "mapper" , you're supposed to do those things , I've only edited the colors....
And 256x256 ? for what ? The original size for it is 64x256.... It's a banner , it should look like one... Also if you make it in 256x256 , it will look very messed up

with UT the texture format is .PCX but you can also import bitmaps (.bmp) into Ued as long as they are set to 8bit colours and size is a multiple of 64, e.g. 64x128 128x512 256x256 512x512 etc. etc.

when you click import on textures tab in Ued then change the "supported format " to "all files" and select the .bmp

you should get a program called "Irfanview" i have used it for many years and is by far the neatest image editor and converter i have ever used, perfect for any mapper.

Do you think I will find the exact program that Fluke was talking about? No. Which is why I asked him. There are more than 1 programs that have that name or whatever. Which is why I asked him. Sounds like you don't know about it either. So why do this. Not going to work. lel.

didn't realise that's how you did it, you need to move both halves further apart than they are so you can fit other two bases in and then you can rebuild mid once bases are where they are meant to be, just keep in mind that any 4way means the mid has to be at least double the size to fit 4 bases in unless its open maps like face, once that is done then you completely remove mid and rebuild it (brushes will overlap and cause BSP cuts which will crash server or GPF the client

no, it is a troll fail banny, there are a lot of mirrors there and in no way is it obvious which mirror to pick, chamberly wouldn't know which link to click on, you knowing what link to click is totally irrelevant.

That makes your smart ass google joke troll attempt a fail. if it was an obvious link to click then your trolling wouldn't be a fail, but as it stands, you are still a fail with this attempt. :D

They are already converted and that crap.
You can just import them.

And for god sake stop messing around with him.
If you think you can do it better, why not create maps?
This is one of the few reasons why i've stopped mapping.

google is always your friend .... you'll find that i also made this made this map as ctf4 (little hard to find but it' still appears to be around)

Butchered TWO "I think is a much better map" altho that wasn't the thought of many within the clan or the servers we played on

sorry I've looked but don't appear to have a backup of ctf4 ... texture name was fugley2 and map name was Butchered_CTF4

Oh I know butchered 4 way is a great idea it's one of my favourite maps. But as predicted the mention of simplex 4 way gave me nightmares last night, Banny D-nuked me 20 times and the match lasted 10 hours, the dream overran so much I was late for work.

I 'think' I still have Zac's map on my folders, but I just didn't like how mid turned out to be.
