I decided to post a separate thread to show my work in progress instead of posting in other threads. I've had a bad habit of hijacking threads lately, sorry about that.

I randomly got back into mapping and was inspired to make some beautiful skybox and lighting I studied from photos and videos of total solar eclipses and have this idea for a map. I was going to make the core in the center and have it EXPOSED from all sides for hoards of monsters to march down the hills from every direction! I was thinking of making destructible geometry in the map (movers). I do not have a name for the map yet other than it's initial filename for what the geometry resembles. Some interesting things I have done is I modified the CylinderBuilder brush builder to make random geometry by changing the radius to random values on each side. I also made 12 different versions of firepaint stars that twinkle and have different placement on each one and randomly applied different ones to the inside of a sphere to make the sky look more natural instead of a repeating tile pattern of the same star texture like I did on CTF-WC-Strongholds. For some reason FerailDragon's NW3 nukes look beautiful here. When I'm short of ideas it's a lot of fun hitting my summon everydamn naliweapons there is hotkey and picking it all up and blowing stuff up :) It just looks nice on the skyline. I spent a lot of time on the skyline trying to make the perfect gradient studying photos and trying to mix the colors right. I am just letting my imagination run... let's see how far it takes me. Well anyways TL|DR is over let's see some screenshots THEY ARE OUTDATED BTW maybe I'll add more due to the flavor of openGL driver I use so when I use the shot command I get THIS:

And now I have the PERFECT Idea for a skybox lens flare script maybe I can imitate some blooming with the horizon orange so I'm off!

Now we need free jetpacks for everyone, and spaceships around to stand on.

Also was wasn't sure if I was ever going to make this look right but I managed to pull off a lens flare for the solar eclipse

Oh yeah! This maps gonna pack a challenge! Monsters coming from all sides down the hill coming for you and your core! I'm going to try to have the walls be destructible so as they are attacking the walks will start damaging and giving way. Monsters will try to peel your base open like a banana!

ya, ya, the skybox IS pretty.. probably a LOT of work too... but I like the "marching down from the hills" idea too... SLOW, LOUD, methodical march... maybe even make the ground tremble.....

The skybox just looks like custom textures, if its made with separate sheets of transparent and special lit textures with different lighting channels..damn

Actually the skybox is more so a cross between a cylinder and a sphere.

It's a 512x512 pixels in size and it was a bitch to align on that 24 sided cylinder.

Such a pain I had to make a little alignment tool texture to help me align it perfectly.

So yes it was a pain in the ass I had to touch every side and align it to a certain offset and with no cheap tricks to bail me out this time, just tedious labor but the end result was good :)
Here's a bottom view of the whole thing notice the small dots are stars obviously you won't see all the detail in this low resolution but still just take a glance at it.

What I want you to see is how I tried to mix the fire paint stars textures up a lot to make the stars diverse and natural looking and this is the look in UnrealED's texture usage view below in the screenshot.

I made a lot of different fire paint textures 11 of them with different arrangements of stars. Since there is no such thing as export a fire paint or duplicate I renamed the fire paint texture saved the map and went back to a previous version of the map renamed it reloaded the previous again renamed and repeated till I had 11 fire paint star texture templates to work with and vary and tried to randomly paint the sides of the sphere with it

I made the gradient by studying images of solar eclipses here are some various images I studied from Google image search

Like a lot of graphics I made I love to generate it with a media generator in Sony Vegas 11 and pile on lots of delicious video fx I love generated media and that's what this image below is a nice gradient based off what I studied form other images and did a white radial gradient with subtractive blending to give that curve. Photoshop CS4 sealed the deal with how it handles 256 color images nicely. I had to use a different kind of diffusion method for the final rendering because the color table was filled up and the gradient was going all steps and bars on me but it turned out alright.

Thanks glad you like it! LOL Sorry wasn't thinking to have mercy on your internet connection. .PNG files are way to bloaty anyways with their lossless compression. I'll try to compress them to 32bit .BMP format.

That broken TB mode is what happens when I use the shot command it happens to me for some reason I have to use 3rd party programs and they only work in windowed mode. The only way I can get fullscreen screenshots is to use a program called PlayClaw which hooks into the 3D rendering somehow to get a screenshot and record videos at a nice framerate!

Hi! it's been a while, I have made some updates to the map.
I am creating a vast environment outside of the main base where the core will be at. It will be a vast area all around to explore and that there is no single direction you are to travel in. There is no direction no clue you decide where to explore. I'm thinking of having the enemy's core located in a different location each game so that the team must explore this desolate land.

However when there is a release after like 5 years, his work is totally immense and worth it.

To round up, he will have a map ready for GU's 5th competition

Ha! Good one SAM. Right now I'm working on a rewrite of the MapData mod I codded long ago which is used to store monsters our in game map editors have added to maps. It's capacity originally was 1000 monsters could be saved in a map but now it's 2000. However the reason for the rewrite is because somehow having over 1000 monsters in a map at once is detrimental to server performance SOMEHOW. This rewrite is critical not just for this map but for all the maps on our server and the future of SiegeXtreme Monster Madness in general. This map is absolutely huge and there are going to likely be THOUSANDS of monsters in this map just not all at once ;) This maps size is absolutely ridiculous the capacity will be around just that. Im making this mod to support this map so I can truly make it an invasion from all sides a standoff in the canyons. There will be a mix of reward and punishment for exploring and this map will have you doing a lot of that because I'm going to try to make the games dynamic in the sense that everything is not located in the same place each game including hoards and ru special weapons and enemy core location. The layout of this map might allow me to make it capable of CTF and Siege however YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT. The map will be absolutely huge and so many places to hide. I will make it capable for the other game types but the design will be concentrated on SiegeXtreme Monster Madness.

Thanks! It was a lot of hard work. It was such a pain in the neck I had to design it in its own separate map then import it in. I might make it a mover that periodically points all the dishes to a different location in the sky

Id love to play this on the public server whenever you release the map, looks very outstanding and your concept sounds great for siege. Well done on everything you've done :D
