yeah, it's a nice thought...but you gotta remember that people play UT because it handles well on a shitty pc. My computer would struggle with UT2k4 nevermind UT3. It sure is a nice thought though....

You would need like 3 months to code a container.

tell you what, you get started on it now and by the time it's ready for beta testing, it should be like 2020 and the prices of all the good hardware will have dropped significantly enough that we all should be able to afford to be able to run it. :D

Well it could probably be done under 2 years if I had a character modeler and texture artist... the cool thing about the UDK is you can make standalone games and don't have to start paying EPIC royalties until after your first $50,000 in sales

Think it looks great? Wait till you experience the lag in HD!! I can't wait omg I was hoping for more lag! I wonder how much in K I'm going to have to shell out for a competent machine to run this at normal speed no less than 1K right?

Try running Nexuiz or Xonotic on high settings and hold it at 30+ fps... Also, Siege is currently known as an Unreal Tournament 99 mod, making it stand alone would be risky as it would probably fly under the radar and no one would ever play it. On top of that, UT99 has almost no requirements to speak of, can be run on almost any hardware or operating system. Unreal Engine 3 based games on the other hand are different story and have problems under WINE as well, making them a pain to set up on a Linux or Mac system.

Indeed, Siege Ultimate Meets Call of Duty... that would be UnReal.... indeed.

wasn't there a ut99 remake project going on like this a couple years back? and I'm pretty sure they redid most textures in high-res.

Yes there was, forgot the name but it died its inevitable death.
Though, the texture update is from a different project AFAIK.
