Higor or @Wildcard

Would you guys plan on making siege for UT4? Maybe bring the whole |uK| clan scene onto UT4? I know it is a little early but what are you thoughts after the game is released?

Let's wait and see how this game turns out, and how conditions will be set for modders.

justa noob question, is this unreal engine 4 the same one as the one that is used on ut2k4 ?

Nope. Different engine.

Going to be a lot different coding for this. There is no uscript at all; it's all C++ and templates. It looks easy from the videos. Have to pay $19 a month for access to the source+editor though.

I'm going to give it a few months so that something tangible is in development I think. Don't want to pay just look at an empty repo...

we ain't gonna play the game for sure then ...
just me perhaps

Well the game will be free to play when it's done, so they have said.

When you've already started messing with the old engine in c++, you feel more confident coding native classes rather than messing with templates and kismet, not to mention the knowledge on how the world tick and replication mechanics work.
If I were to mod for UE4, I'd go full native and control events my way.

In short, different language, same engine fundamentals... and modding huge projects like Siege is 70% engine.

~V~ i actually said that cuz of the system requirements the game would need, since i don't have a decent gaming computer to play on lol

OuTlaW, ah right, got ya. Yeah I was wondering about that too.

That's going to be the main problem, Siege's already undergone various optimization techniques and they're easily portable it won't add extra load to a system.
It's all coming down to how the main game's requirements and optimization go.

... all this assuming we don't recruit a 3d model artist for next-gen graphics on stationary buildings, an alpha version will surely start off using the same old models lol.

Damn I see that post for siege for the next UT on the UE 4 forums. Maaannn I replied the SHIT out of that bullshit getting ready to be put into a game. #nosiegeplznoneed

In theory, Siege can run actually a hell lot faster in UE4 than in UE1: heavily hardware accelerated stuff, multi-threading and native code, besides other latent optimizations out of the bat from the engine itself.

For now it seems that only people with UE4 licenses will be able to do anything at all, furthermore this new UT will certainly take several months (maybe years) to have a stable release, so thinking about Siege for UT4 right now is kinda pointless, to not mention that by the time it gets to be an actual game, UE4 should run fairly good in plenty of systems by then for whoever has a decent hardware nowadays.

Leaves us thinking...
What if Siege was made a standalone game capable of reading UT99 content (maps, textures) with it's own updated weapon and net code?

We'd need player models, package serializator, runtime BSP > StaticMesh converter, runtime UTexture > Material creator, run-time music tracker (umx reading), new weapon models and effects... and NEW code able to put those things together.
Would be entirely possible with a few licenses, and stupidly potent systems (i don't have one).

I missed this discussion.

If UT4 is any good. You can bet we will be on that scene tearing things up. I'll even consider paying the rates for the source code and some hard $ per release.

I'm wondering how many peoples are not able to use UT4 due to poor internet and lack of hardware requirements. I'm one of them.

Yeah, same here. Got too old version of some things that would be a total pain to upgrade.

UT4 should be playable on Windows (VIsta , XP (32/64), 7 (32/64) and 8 (32,64)), Linux and Mac. That has a Nvidia 400+ series card, Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster, and 8GB Ram.

So far the Movement looks very promising. You can watch m3ss videos here (http://www.ownedwell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=51).

Will most likely be made eventually.
