I have a bad setup with bad brightness so i don't even see mines most of the time, at all. They blend with the surroundings. But up to a point, they blend in anyway even with a good setup (i assume).

What if they were not half-invis but with a texture that makes them highly visible?

They would be less powerful.

Renderer and renderer settings?

Old CRT monitor that is going dark i assume. Plus broke the brightness buttons on the monitor too, so am using Catalyst video card panel to assign hotkeys with brightness settings, which works (and can go very bright), but mines became kinda invisible most of the time.

I can be right in front of one and look at the pixels and not see it. Then i hit forward and boom.

There has been a discussion about the mine to become a bit more visible before, there was a thread about it and it passed. So, maybe it's your vid driver/monitor or settings for ut.ini.

Broke the brightness buttons? Take it out and use a tool or something maybe? lol ;)

Isn't that the point of a mine, to not be easily seen? I almost never see them, not when I need to see them most.

Mines too powerful, game-sluggers

Nah, they are part of the defense, awhile you have some other like high powerful transers and jetpackers (hot air balloon lel) are part of the other powerful tools. lol.

The prob with the pro-balance mentality is that if a game is really really balanced then it bogs down. When you win at balancing things, no side has the advantage over the other.

I say mines make a game too balanced.

I'd say not really. If you have someone on the other team is a miner, make someone on your team a miner too... role per role, but do many peoples follow these tactic? Nope... Only in Pugs some. It's just the public server.

Some days, you get zero miners on your team and you lose by rocket cannons.
Some other days, you get to play on Hydro with 4 other miners in your team, rage ensued for the other team.

If you play with a team full of miners on Niven you'll be unstoppable. IMO we should try out a mine limit, maybe not as restrictive as 10 but maybe even 15 or 20 would be something to try out, the reason being that on a number of maps they grind the game to a halt. There are limits placed on building other items for example SPs, SCs and forcefields, maybe it would pay to experiment with ways to stop the mine spam. The main problem with putting a limit would be that n00bs would build them in silly places and use up the limit when they are not killing anyone. Would having a personal mine limit of 5 per player be a solution?

You'll be unstoppable AND you prolly won't have the firepower to get other side because of your mines ru SO you'll indefinitly stall the game...

Actually, there is currently 8(or 10 but I think 8) mine limit. Unlimited SM limit. & it have been like that for awhile.

Mines are practically invisible on my UT too. Mines are whack and should be removed/limited to like 3-5.

But that won't happen cause they're too useful :^)
