Talking about that, there's one thing I must know before I forget again about siege (relative NW3): I didn't check the siege code, but from what I saw in-game, the buildings are actually pawns, but idk how exactly they stabilish the "teams".

@scarface or WildCard or another siege dev: It happens that there are at least 2 weapons which may have problems with buildings (as "problems" I mean the protectors attacking cybots and cybots attacking protectors regardless of the team).

Well, my "pawns" (cybots) are "smart" enough to check if something belongs to a team (another cybot or pawn, as other whatever objects), based on the Instigator (generally a pawn is its own Instigator, but I made so my cybots had an external Instigator instead: the "master pawn" of them), however I don't know how this is working in siege, and I believe that protectors will attack cybots. (in case people don't know what a "cybot" is, it's a transformable drone, there are different kinds of them, that one above is the "android" one).

The Mobile Satelite (one of the nuker weapons, a remote one), may be also be a pawn so bots can attack it (the AI support is part of this pack features), and although the Mobile Satelite won't attack any protectors, the protectors may attack it as well and reveal its location to the enemy (as it can be taken down, and while it isn't, the enemy can keep nuking the hell out of their oponents with it).

One of the ways I am thinking to implement this in my side, is making cybots ignore the buildings at all, but siege should also have somewhat a fix to ignore a "pawn class list" where cybots would be there, but in case the team is implemented in a very standard way in siege, I may fix that in my side.


In a last note: at NW3 release, if you setup a siege server with them, be sure to not be the main server, but yes a secondary server (I am sure I am not the only one wanting to keep the regular siege gameplay in the main server with regular weapons only, as not even I know if NW3 would make a better or worse server gameplay wise, although I am enjoying my weapons for the first time in my modding life gameplay and graphical wise).

and dude i love your work and the weapons are awesome im just thinking of siege and its gameplay as it is right now which is terrible because of lame play these would just make it even worse

In a short resume: I agree with you to NOT add them in the Main Siege server. As for a secondary one, some people seem to want it on siege, so it would be up to you and other regulars to play there or not.

Imho, I also want to keep the normal weapons only one, but I would play in the both of them.

Also, I must note that if people are guessing the NW3 gameplay based on NW2, well, you couldn't be more wrong relative the gameplay level they give (I openly say I never liked NW2 nor anything I develop myself that much, yet NW3 is quite addicting and even my brother annoys me to setup a server sometime "again" with NW3 and he hates NW2 to the bone).

I only get offended if someone reduce this particular mod to "nothing much", or create false rumours about it or just criticize it to provocate me (the 3 of them already happenned, that's why I am pointing them out).

From there, each person has his/her own tastes and opinions, therefore anyone can openlly say that "in their opinion" this mod "sucks", and I won't get offended, it's their opinion (no one needs to say they "like" the mod just to be in good terms with me or anyone else supporting me, as I value honesty).

In this particular case, I perfectly understand what you mean with it, and I agree to an extent, there's no need to fix what's not broken or modify something that's working great as it is, instead is always better to just add an "alternative", and nothing more. From there, people decide what they want by themselves. :)

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE (05-Mar-2011) - Cybot Launcher Finished

If anyone wondered if this pack was still under development, read below (screenshots below as well):

138 classes, more than 100 texture files, 73 new 3D models and 2 months of development later, the Cybot Launcher is finally ready (finished it today).
Like I said previouslly, this was the most complex part of the NW3 pack and it would take time to finish, specially since I never did AI or Pawn animations (ended up to find further engine bugs on the way too regarding pawns), never the development of a single weapon took me this much time, but personally I am quite glad I could at least finish it the way I somewhat intended to, plus the most difficult thing in the pack was achieved, so now the rest is "relativelly easy" to make.

Although it was quite difficult to make, it's very easy to use and quite fun as well. It's a weapon classified as "Super Weapon", which means Redeemer's class, plus they are able to battle eachothers and are fully optimized for team games (2 to 4 teams), specially visually.
It can carry up to 15 ammo, however you get only 5 ammo at pickup (so basically you would need to get 3 launchers to get 15 ammo).

The cybots will fight and can get killed, and they are (F and G stand for "Follower" and "Guardian" respectivelly):

#1 - Sentinel - Stationary cybot, attacks incoming enemies with its blaster (1 ammo needed);
#2 - Dual Sentinel - An advanced version of the Sentinel: it holds 2 blasters so it attacks 2x faster (2 ammo needed);
#3 - Android F - A cybot which can walk, run, jump, cut heads off while jumping, as also a blaster, dodges incoming projectiles (when possible), etc... and follows you around (3 ammo needed);
#4 - Android G - Same as Android F, but this one doesn't follow you around, it stays at the place you deployed until it spots an enemy (3 ammo needed);
#5 - Heli F - Flies around following you and attacking enemies with a dual blaster, and dodges incoming projectiles, however it doesn't fire a while doing so (5 ammo needed);
#6 - Heli G - Same as Heli F, but doesn't follow you, it stays where it was deployed (it still moves around though) (5 ammo needed);
#7 - Drone F - It's a flying cybot with much more freedom than Heli, faster, it makes much less noise and it's harder to hit, and at times it fires up to 3 sequences of 7 following projectiles to hit different enemies at range, can fire while dodging, and follows you around (8 ammo needed);
#8 - Drone G - Same as Drone F, but doesn't follow you, it stays where it was deployed (it still moves around though) (8 ammo needed);
#9 - Kamikaze - It's a suicidal exploding cybot: it charges up for about 3 seconds (making the center light bigger and brighter), and makes a huge explosion, covering an area slightly bigger than the Redeemer (8 ammo needed);
#10 - F-Field - Also known as Force Field, it simply won't let any projectile pass through it's boundaries, friend or foe, although anyone is able to fire projectiles from the inside. From each time it receives damage through the field, it gets smaller, however this is the only cybot which can regenerate and grow big again to its initial state. There's a an option in the ini to also kill enemy pawns attempting to physically invade the field, but it's false by default (8 ammo needed);
#11 - Vortex - By far the best cybot you will want to get your hand on: it creates a quantum vortex and pulls everything at its reach (except projectiles). It frequently discharges some energy to the ground breaking it and atracting further matter into it (12 ammo needed).

Some Notes:

Also, as you might imagine, the release time of NW3 will be again delayed (I never thought to take this much time, even thought I somewhat knew a long was needed for this weapon in particular), but this time I won't stablish a time, instead I will say what's still left to be done to release the pack:
- Some addons and fixes to the core and some already finished weapons;
- The nukes (about 5 of them, including the new Megaton and UltimaProtos, been saving some core visual features exclusivelly for these 2);
- A simple melee weapon;
- A few "utilities" (2 or 3, easy stuff)
- A few mutators
- Some new pickups to replace the standard ones

So as you see, the release gets closer and closer, and the development is not stopped, and there isn't that much to be done.

LOL, thanks. About the release, I keep wondering that myself. I made this preview exactly because I couldn't release it yet (to be honest I wasn't going to make another preview, but the development is taking so long, so there it is), so wait just a few more months, only a few more weapons to do and some features and fixes.

No, not yet. So far I test things with my brother in each "milestone" (milestone = new weapon 100% finished), only later during "internal" beta-testing a test server will be needed.
I don't know exactly who will set it up by then, but I already got some "offers" of sort to speak.

All weapons will be "Siege Ready" on release, and by "siege ready" I mean they will only need the siege gametype itself to be adapted by whoever is in charge of siege development by then.
The adaptation is not a big deal either, it would be pretty much the same as adding other custom weapons to siege, as all the AI and configurations would be done in my side already, and could be easilly changed to what the admin finds best (for instance the nukes can have more or less details, more or less damage, etc, the admin decides).

So in the end, it will only depend on the admin having a few of these in siege or not.

Well, I have already told you we have plenty resources here to host on our dedi i7. I would be interested in dev(ing) this into siege...however time constraints are a huge bitch for me. But I will work with whatever I have got. Either way, we will be hosting NW3 during beta (if allowed) or when released ;)

Now without jokes, all the Nali Weapons themselves are meant to be "Unreal" like the game name itself sugests, only the environment and their effects tend to have a bit more of "realism" to not feel wrong

But I am curious, why do you say that? What doesn't feel "right" to you?

Well, as you may have noticed this is not a normal sniper at all. Even the ammo aren't bullets, the ammo are high-powered discardable batteries (just like in NW2X), and the actual shot is an instant powerfull laser, and there are lasers which perfurate through stuff, and "walls" aren't excluded (ofc, it all depends on the material, but I can't emulate that in UT at all for online play).
Plus, it doesn't shoot through "any wall", it has a wall thickness which is adjustable (if the distance between the "wall hit in" and the "potential wall hit out" is bigger than that, the laser won't be able to pass through and won't hit the object you want to hit at the other side).

Plus, independently of the wall thickness, the laser is also limited to 1 "single wall hit through", so even in Face this is not a problem.
Honestly I can't see how you can get a laser of this type more "realistic" than this, but it's all a matter of opinion when we add sci-fi to the mix :)

Also, even if you don't like to have a sniper shoot through walls, even with all these limitations, it will have a setting to disable that feature, so it's up to the admin disabling it or not :)

Yes. I have been 2 months stopped because of a PC failure, but now I at it again since 1 month ago (more or less).

Yeah, the peacefull Nali can build this stuff, that's exactly the ideia lol. :D
The original ideia in the usage of these is still to be applied somewhere after I finish this pack and X-Vehicles (and perhaps after a war gametype like siege, but quite different in many ways, when I make the story mode of them all, IF I make it at all that is).

Basically, you better not stand in the way of this projectile, otherwise you will be killed before the actual blast, due to the pressure it makes while travelling (being a massive amount of energy condensed in such small form), having leaks of energy as well (the lightnings).

UPDATE

Well, guys, I wanted to show you the Ionizer at its fullest, however given the circumstances I can only show WIP stuff so far, and I decided to only show the whole thing at release. The Ionizer is half done and I should finish it very soon. For the ones who are wondering, this is also a "nuclear weapon", so you can imagine what this is going to do.

I think a question that keeps being asked over and over and over.... is the release date, right? Well, I wanted to release it this month (seriously), however I can't. Once again the lack of time leads me to delay the release and I don't have any Christmas vacations this year :\
BUT, here's the good news: once the Ionizer gets finished, the rest of the stuff is quite easy and fast to do by comparision, so I do not promise anything, but I will try to release it by: January or February.

Having that said, ModDB started the MOTY 2011 edition (Mod Of The Year), and I never asked this ever, but I would like to try it out this year just out of curiosity. Therefore, I would invite you guys to vote in NW3 there:

@Blaze: Complex to use? If so, it's easier than you think.
Think in the ion painter from UT2k4, now think that you just have to place a station somewhere first, wait for it to launch (a couple of seconds), and then use the satellite ion beam (a nuke) not 1 time, but 2 times just by pointing towards a spot in the map. :)
Straight to the point I think....
The whole process of choosing to build something in Siege is more complex :P (playing-wise of course, from the technical point of view (code), the Ionizer is perhaps more complex).

Yes, pretty much.
They don't need to be "that big" as you may be thinking, this weapon works perfectly fine in CTF-Lavagiant, CTF-Face, CTF-HallOfGiants, some DM ones, etc.

In the replacement mutator I will add a list of maps the admin can tweak for where this weapon should be casted.

Although NW3 is not directly meant for Siege (although it will come prepared for it anyway), it would be a good weapon for it I think in many popular maps (Bathrooms, Blackriver, Icepost, HillForts, etc), as something more costly than the neutron bomb for example (don't forget that in NW3 every nuke damage is fully tweakable, so it doesn't have to destroy the entire base at all lol).

Also, although you have the disadvantage to have to deploy the station and only at certain locations, you can fire the satellite twice (this is also configurable), and if it gets taken down, you can deploy a new one "free of charge" (no ammo is consumed to deploy it).
The advantage is that you can deploy it in one place, and then go to another place and attack it without giving yourself away at all.

Yet another update...
The Ionizer charging and nuclear blast: it starts as a small purple beam, then it cracks the floor around, then the pieces start to levitate around the beam as it starts to leak energy (ion lightnings), then BOOM, an ion shockwave emerges and a small "plasma" ball stays there as a result of the ionization of the energetic center, while the cloud around keeps having some ion based lightnings due to static energy.

Also, I take this update to say that the 2 remaining weapons already have names:
- Melee: The Executioner
- Translocator: E.T.D. (Enhanced Translocation Device)
As for what exactly they do, I will say later in the next update. Thanks everyone who sent me ideas to help me figuring out new names.
They're also the 2 last weapons I have to do for the pack.

As for the "Builder" one, CANCELLED, for now.
It will be released later with a whole new gametype using the NW3 "technology"(aka visual and flexibility features), based on the already known and popular custom gametype Siege.

It will be pretty much my own Siege version but made from scratch (new buildings, different visuals, newbie friendly and with its own team balancer), but not far from the original thing (NOTE: the objective of this new Siege is not to replace any current one, but rather give a totally new experience but keeping the "magic" behind the current Siege. WildCard is currently developing a new version of Siege and that's the one that should replace any previous version instead, I don't want to step in anyone's toes with this one).
The Builder will also come with a lot more of possibilities that will make it usable in nearly every gametype for different purposes.
I will give more details about this later after the NW3 release and after another 1-2 months UT project I will have in hands.

FINAL DEVELOPMENT UPDATE (10-April-2012)

Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is the last development update before actual release of this mod. All weapons are done, however some work is still left to do to truly complete the mod: some changes, enhancements and fixes, some features, optimizations, addons, support for future projects of mine, menus to tweak the settings, documentation (yes, I will make a full extensive doc on all you need to know, either you're an admin or player, dev docs may come later if there's any interest which I kinda doubt, so I won't do those for now, but I will let the code open like I always do, so...), and then a small private beta-testing to ensure everything is fine and then release.

And as tradition demands, a development update comes always with new things to look at, in this case the two last weapons from this pack: the Executioner and Razored Translocator, as you can see below.
One of the totally new things introduced with both weapons is the appearance of actual blood in the blades of each weapon. Not only "red blood", but 5 possible colors as mercenaries have green blood for instance. Each weapon has a command that can be used to clean the blood from them if you wish: CleanBlades (Executioner) and CleanRazor (R.T.).


The Executioner
This is the melee weapon of the pack, it comes with 4 configurable different firemodes, from which you can choose 2: single, double, single+double mix and charged attack.
With charged attack you have pretty much the same destructive and impact effect from impact hammer, which means instant killing upon charging and "charged jumps".

Razored Translocator (R.T.)
The R.T. is a special kind of translocator that has 2 possible device modes: a regular one and one with blades.
The regular one will work pretty much like the standard one physics-wise, however once you activate the blades it will behave a like a Ripper blade, but hitting walls endlessly.
When you activate the blades, you can cut down enemies (several at once since it passes through their flesh) and translocate to great distances, however it brings the disadvantage of being bigger (so it cannot pass through narrow spaces), the travel is a bit more turbulent, it's slower to relaunch, and since it never stops you can never really rely on its position, and if you do monitor it, with the action UT has you may as well get fragged while you wait and look intently to the trajectory of this device.
But if however you don't like one of the modes, you can disable either one, as configure lots of settings, such as: fx, sounds, speed, etc.

There are 2 new fx you can choose from (actually 4, but 2 of them are: no fx and standard teleport fx from UT):
* glowing team-colored particles: these leave a glowing decay in both points that quickly fades away like dust;
* dark particles: basically the dark version of the one above (better for dark places to not be noticed).

Well, like I stated in my post above, the pack is at 95% right now, but I still don't have a defined date yet since every time I set a date, something happens to frickin' delay it making both me and the whole community frustrated.

The weapons are all done, all there's left are a few addons, changes/enhancements, optimizations, fixes, menus, documentation/help files and beta-testing, which can take either another month or just a few weeks (this is a great month to me to do this kind of stuff quickly, so hopefully is the latter, we'll see).

I am not sure where exactly I am going to test them out.

There's going to be both closed offline and online beta-testing (offline mostly to test different settings and the AI, and online to test the online gameplay and code), and this testing will be organized in a private section at ut99.org (so basically all the beta-testers I am going to choose are registered there or will have to if they wish to), as for the online one I already got some admins offering a server to do so, but I am still not really sure which one will host it in this phase for real, specially if we consider it has to be tested in different gametypes (DM, CTF, MH, AS, etc), since the mod supports most of them (all the standard, a few custom ones).

@Scar: Well, the mod is completely modular, which means you can add only the weapons you want to a server, as each weapon developed is in one different separate package, so you can remove what you don't want, while me (and any other) can just add more new weapons later to the pack without having to release a totally new version.

So in resume: yeah, you can do that. However there's only 1 package that must always be in the server: the NW3 core package (15Mb uncompressed, just around 5Mb uz compressed), since this is the central package all the weapons need to run, but other than that, you just use what you want without any worries nor extra bandwidth load.

@Camilo: ZP, that's a great question. Actually I was planning to add either ZP or some sort of ping compensation processing (which would be more secure to avoid cheating), but I postponed both of them since I thought no one would use the instant hit weapons for real ZP-like gameplay.
Also as for instant-hit, NW3 has: WRE, BoltRifle, Super BoltRifle, Vulcan, IRPR and the Executioner could be considered instant hit since it also does traces to make the cuts.

I can try to add ZP (or both and make them configurable), and it would be a neat feature of my NW3 core for future instant-hit weapon mods, but that may extend a bit the release date (again :\ ). So, do you guys really want ZP in NW3?

Now Blaze, that's just unnecessary.

You never played with THIS pack in your entire life (nor anyone else for that effect besides myself and my brother), and yet you're assuming they're either spammy or overpowered.
I am not saying that they should or shouldn't be in siege (I also like siege as it is btw), but never put this current pack on the same level of binslayer or any other weapon pack which are nothing more than overpowered versions of the standard weapons with just a different skin.

This pack is fully... read this through... FULLY configurable, which means, you can disable the most spammy modes, reduce/tweak any damage, tweak any mode that can give you a great advantage. Plus, it will be beta-tested to guarantee a nice gameplay in both spammy and balanced gametypes.

See those really huge nuclear explosions? You can tweak them to the point where they don't give more damage than an enforcer.

Each and every one is entitled to their own opinion of course, and I respect all those opinions. It just pisses me off when people start to judge a mod out of their ass when they never tried it in the first place (and no, NW2 doesn't count, this is a totally different mod).

Let me release, try it out in the "balanced mode" (from the settings), then you can take your own conclusions.

With the Cybot Launcher, how do you control the Bot's after deployment? Do they have different Op Mode's (Patrol, Waypoint or Remote) or are they preset routine's?

Once deployed you cannot control them, however with most cybots you can deploy 1 of 2 variants: follower or guardian.
The "follower" will cover your back and follow you around, protecting you from opponents, the "guardian" will stand in the same position you placed it until it spots an enemy, after killing that enemy the cybot stays in the position.

I was indeed going to add an utility to control them further (creating group strategies defined by the player, ambush, patrol, etc), but I thought players would find it a bit more complex to use.

Not sure though, but the weapons themselves are finished, and I am optimizing the netcode (it's already quite fast and reliable, some of it better than the netcode of the standard weapons, but it can be faster and take less bandwidth, thus I am optimizing it) and enhancing the visuals (some weapons and effects can look a lot better, within the same performance, so...).

Well, graviton has a configurable list (for the admin) for objects that should not be moved in a game, and the flametracker has also a configurable list for things it should not add flames to, so the admin can just add "sgBuilding" to these lists and they won't be moved or get burned.

But I don't think anyone would want these in siege, no matter how balanced they are, players will always complain about it.
I would rather make a new gametype similar to siege and add these in (if it's "new", no one complain about "change").

I won't add ZP, but I will make a "lag compensation" system instead. This is what modern FPS games generally use to somehow "fix" the ping issues with hitscan weapons, and it's much easier to implement, and it's much more secure and stable than ZP (since the actual work is done server-side rather than client-side).
Takes a little bit more server resources, but the trade-off is open code, stability and security.

Don't worry, no one is going to add them to siege (at least not the main server, I believe).
It's better to have a classic siege server and a secondary one with extra mods, than adding these to the main one alone (there I share the same opinion as you).

However, at least this mod is balanced enough to just provide a different experience (they're not spammy if the admin tweaks the main settings to "balanced").

I was thinking about it a little, that you have some destabillizers that can only allow you to pickup ONE building but not core or suplier and healthpod.
Also, i was thinking that flametracker should have some sort of an Activator that can make it burn buildings like flamethrower (Damage over time).
Normally these destabillizers and activators would be expensive OR you can programe an advanced version of flametracker that would spawn in middle of map and will do same job like flamethrower (Damage over time). Now about these destabillizers and activators.... i was thinking it would be good to have a model of Dampener (unreal 1 thing that decreases ur weapon sound).

What do you think about it?

Well, NW3 has support for almost all UT gametypes (DM, TDM, CTF, AS, DOM, Siege, JB, ...), including MH of course. :)
But this time the gameplay differs from gametype to gametype: you can have a more "spammy" configuration for a MH server, and a more "balanced" or "nerfed" version for other gametypes, for example:
- The Miner: in MH it can deploy all mines, including the medium to high range vehicular and air mines (at the cost of more ammo ofc), while in DM or CTF the air and vehicular can be disabled for instance. And the same applies to all the other mines, and all the different types of firing or projectiles of other weapons.

And who says disabling some stuff, the same goes to tweaking some settings of damage (like how much damage a megaton gives from the core explosion and from the shockwave, and they are different and separate configurable values) and other settings (like how many lightnings will a ultimaprotos nuke cast, since in the new version the lightnings can come outside the initial range of the blast), etc...

Still in the phase of fixes and enhancements, but since some months have passed and someone at moddb just screamed "update please!", I thought... well, why not?
As for a release, well, 1st preview in August 2010, 2nd preview in August 2011, release... perhaps you can guess where this is going.
Let's see if I can match that time (during that month I will have plenty of time for this thus perhaps that will be "the time").

To whoever saw the 2nd preview of NW3, in the end of the video I have shown the Megaton nuclear explosion at the time and the guided nuke HUD.
If you don't remember those, I invite you to just check the nuke part of the video to see the "old" ones.
Anyway, I found those a bit "meh.." and decided to enhance both a bit (along with all the nuclear explosions and all the other NW3 weapons).

So as an example of those enhancements, I present you the Megaton nuke enhancement and guided nuke HUD enhancement, still not perfect, but I won't enhance these any further, so this is an example of what you should expect in the final release.

Well, I just want to drop something in about that that may or may not affect that decision:
- this mod supports different gameplay profiles, meaning that you can have the weapons balanced in one way in MH, and balanced in another for CTF, and so on (up to 8 different profiles).
The same for having weapons enabled or disabled for specific gametypes (for instance, during our closed testing it was noted that perhaps in DM certain nukes and the cybot launcher would be too OP, so they can be disabled for DM alone in the same server instance).
This pack comes with 8 profile loaders to be added to the mapvote in case one wants to have different gametypes in the same server but have a different experience in each gametype accordingly by just adding the loader to the mapvote ini itself.

Example: let's say you go with MH *and* DM: you can enable the weapon modifiers and make them rather OP for MH as one profile, and you can nerf the weapons, disable the modifiers and even disable specific weapons for DM as another profile.

Also, I must mention that NW3 has ZP for hitscan weapons and a SuperBoltRifle Arena mutator (basically the insta gun of NW3). ZP can be disabled both in the client as in the server, either for specific weapons or for all weapons. This ZP seems to work fine btw, and has several security validations and has support to have further security plugins in the future without needing to change anything in the pack (which means the plugins would just have 1kb or 2kb, and would just need to be loaded in the server and not the client).
In case you try the SBR arena, I must warn that you will see lots of gibs in flames though.
