I think if you removed the opening doors and made the core a little more open it would be a good map

It is not a bad map.

The door is annoying, however I think removing it would change the gameplay immensly.
##Cube's idea may help. If you made the door into an attach mover and linked blocking actors to it you might have your problem solved.

Improving the textures would be good, but even better would be improving the features
##The shapes of the rooms are good but the only feature I have seen is the flame in the main room corners. Add some ceiling lights, pannels, air ducts or girders?

maybe removing the door and making a wall a small distance away from the doorway and perpendicular to the doorway so it creates a passageway...but then again that might increase the spam. Look @ hillforts, if you can fix that map, you can probably fix simplex. or take the new niven for instance; one extra entryway and it's a totally different map. Just some suggestions, good luck man.

If simplex gets changed so do other maps like Niven...and the spam maps if they havent already need to be removed from server so they dont get picked otherwise people including myself leave.
A map like Frigate? I gotta see this...

Ironic, i have been playing around with this map last few days....this is what i have done with it up to now. (pics are with XXLZP version, cant use RC7 as i get a GPF error in practice.)

this in no way is meant as an attempt to "steal" the map or edit without permission, it was simply out of boredom and then i noticed this thread so thought it might be worth posting.

Yo flukey. No need to worry about editing anything...we just prefer not to "share" maps with certain people...who basically leech everything from us and then tarnish us afterwards.

Anyhow, if you want your edits put up on the server, pm me the links and I'll be happy to do that for you so we can test how it is in a public scenario

cool scar, some people can get touchy if people touch their work, i have seen it happen many times where people took my RX, added a few noob skins and then claimed they made it, so didnt want to step on toes.

i hear a few complaints about certain maps being buggy and i have a lot of my own high res textures i can use, as well as custom meshes (if you played UT2K4 at all you would notice the meshes surrounding the core are the bomb gates from 2K4 and under the teleporters are the health charger pods)

anyway, like i said, i was bored and as i dont code much anymore i wanted to do some map editing and this was the first one i opened, its changed a lot since those pics and it will be ready for testing out in a day or so.

I do not care what edit maps without permission of autor, but the autor name should be maintained, if someone edit a map do it:

CTF-|uK|Simplex~Renovated finished and link sent to Scar, the original mapmakers name maintained, music is different though as the original was de obfuscated into mylevel.mylevel or some other encryption. made a few changes, door removed, nuke room etc. etc.

if you mean the nuke room above the water then its still there, i added a hidden nuke room in each base (only way to get to it is by using trans and then building tele's) and a vent shaft from base leading to water (accessible only with tele), only thing that is taken away is the base doors as a few comments were made about them but i did add something so the entrance isnt so wide thus making the entrance easier to fortify.

like i said earlier, i simply got bored and this is the end result, if people like it they like it, if not....oh well, i will still edit and update maps.

the decoration around the core is exactly that...decoration, it has no collision radius at all so no projectile/weapon fire will be blocked by it, purely for looks only....i had a feeling someone may whine that it will get in the way so thats why i removed the solidity from it, so you can walk right through it.

i will take a look at firepot.

i have tried not to change it too much apart from cosmetically, all the secrets that were there before are still there except the slope area where you could put a tele through the ceiling.

as i said, i have added 2 extra nuke rooms only accessible with trans, Scar was sent the map and waiting for his response or him to upload it to server, i cant edit it now until i have heard from him.

i didnt want to change the layout of the map as much as update the look and feel of it, i also addressed only problems i have heard a lot which is the doors being removed and the slope tele through ceiling stopped, i have heard these complained about a lot.

you have to export mesh/model as .obj from 2k4 editor, then reduce the poly count in 3D software like 3DS max or MS3d etc. then export as UT .3D file type, then create .uc for import of the model into UT as a .U file. (ms3d creates this file for you when exporting so all you have to do is compile as long as texture names match)
