Would be amazing if textures were serialized using some sort of compression.
Right now the best one can do is to use the same bitmap with different palettes to make the UCC compressor produce a smaller UZ file.
I've done such experiments on some of my packages with some improvement, FV_ColorShock is the LCWeapons' colored shock rifle textures and effects and SoldierSkins_XC_ my custom Male 2 skins.
Of course, this is can only be applied when your textures can be made as palette swap variations, and takes quite some time and skill to do with as much as 5-10% quality loss.

FV_ColorShock and SoldierSkins_XC_ use identical bitmaps with different palettes.
Detail is a special case, all textures in this package contain the same 8-bit palette.
The other two packages don't have anything special on them.
