lol I was just over reacting.....messing around

Bad sectors are fine. Once it is determined as bad the system won't use it again. Don't try to correct it (I'd suggest) and to be on the safe side get a new HDD transfer everything and don't take any chances

You could right click on your hard drive, Tools tab... and Check for error-checking. That could give you a bit of more info.

The OS will not automatically mark the bad blocks out.
You have to run the "Error checking" from the tools tab, you will find in the right-click "Properties" option.

If any files are in use and locked, it will need to scan during a reboot.
A few defrag tools will also do disc-checking, which you may find more useful, as they can also show you where the bad blocks are.
Defraggler can show you the "SMART" info of your drive. This will show how healthy the drive thinks it is.

    There are a few disk-tools in the bottom half of this handy page;
Your Unreal - Tweak Windows and ALL Graphics drivers
It also has a guide to effective drive partitioning and usage, designed to extend drive life.

There is software that can repair bad blocks, but it is generally used when salvaging a drive.
I'll add some more checking and repair tools to my blog Doc Flay-recovery-tools after I've looked through my tools collection.

If the SMART info looks good, then it may be a random bad block because that area has been used a lot.
It could also be a temperature issue. If magnetic media gets too hot, it will fail.
(The Speedfan tool in the first link will show various Temp readings.)

^^ Reminds me of those times with scratched floppy drives.
I guess HDD's clusters can be marked as invalid to avoid writing with disk checking tools, but I wonder if it's safe to keep using the HDD afterwards, I'd make a backup on a second disk just in case more data is lost in the future.

Bad blocks are common but most people never run scandisk/checkdisk, and fewer do a "low-level" format.
There are often bad sectors mapped out after being manufactured.

If the temperature is regularly above 60 deg. it will fail anyway
using a SMART monitoring tool is a good idea if you are woried about your drive.
It should notify you if the drive is failing.

Do an error-check one a week, and if it does not find any new bad sectors, you will be safe for a while.

Going to add 2 more SMART tools to the collection of recovery tools, but i'll post here first (as I am here)
Active@ Hard Disk Monitor 3.1 (2 week trial. this may be enough)
Active@ Hard Disk Monitor. Download FREE & PRO versions. SMART monitoring software
