    Linux for ut99

I'm wondering what is out there good to use for ut99 , and maybe including wine?

I was reading this thread. http://www.unrealkillers.com/f15/lin...ournament-202/

So, which particular linux is good? Ubuntu? CentOS? etc.
    Client vs server support?
    Developer support?
Probably won't get a big discussion here but might as well give it a try.

Other thing is, I gotta keep an eye out on hardware compatibility, ran into 1 problem with ubuntu back in 2009.
I'm probably going to go for playing on linux first and see how it goes. heh.

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 and have had 0 issues with it, but I use Windows for gaming.

Usually going for client to try, then after some experiment I'll do some server. Any suggestion?

Only ever ran the Linux based servers and they were very good, probably more reliable than windows based machines. I have a write up somewhere on here about Linux based servers.

Eh, my memory is a bit unreliable when it comes to these things, but I think the native Linux client only worked with the Voodoo line of cards when it came to 3D acceleration. I might be pulling that out of thin-air though

Exactly they are, but any particular? CentOS? Ubuntu? Maybe I'll ask some server host about what they run.

I ran the servers on Ubuntu hardy heron. Pretty sure ended up on lucid lynx.

If I remember correctly. The kernel that seemed to work best was the pre emptive.

You'll find way more help for Ubuntu. For example, a search on StackOverflow for Ubuntu yields 138,973 results, while a search for CentOS yields only 27,572 results. And if you're going to use Ubuntu as a server, make sure to actually use Ubuntu Server, not the full Ubuntu Desktop, as the server version is absolutely minimal - i.e., no GUI, all command-line, which is want you want for a server (efficiency).

Also, shameless referral link for Vultr, which is one of the providers I use. They currently give the best bang for your buck, and I believe you can try it out for "free" (you get $5 credit upon signing up, so until the $5 runs out). http://www.vultr.com/?ref=6832925
