Someone told me this cheat bypasses ACE. Is this true? If it is, what's the point of having any cheat protection on your server? Thanks

ACE would need to be updated on a nearly daily bases to catch most cheats, but you can't expect anth to waste so much time on this project.
It's just like the arms race of antibiotics and infections.
