I am going to post some basic tutorials on how to use virtual dub and fraps together.

Audio
1.Fraps: Audio Settings.
2.Unreal Tournament/Windows: Audo settings.
3.Virtual Dub: How to replace the audio of the video with music

Video

1.Virtual Dub: converting/compressing the fraps AVI using virtual dub
2.Virtual Dub: Changing the fps/Speed of your video
3.Virtual Dub: Deleting parts from your video
4.Virtual Dub: Adding Clips/ other video files.

Fraps download
If you do not have a copy of fraps you can get it hereDownload Fraps 3.5.99 free version (http://www.fraps.com/download.php).
Virtual dub download
If you don't have a copy of virtual dub you can get a copy hereVirtual dub (http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/)
Unreal tournament Demo manager 3.3
You can download it hereunreal tournament demo manager 3.3 (http://www.ut-files.com/index.php?dir=Utilities/udemo/&file=udemo33.zip)

Audio Settings
Fraps Audio Settings

In fraps you have a few audio setting you can use, for example if you want to record your microphone only instead of the windows audio, you can tick the box "Record external output", and untick "record Win7 sound".
To record Windows sounds, only tick record Win7 sound.
To record Windows sounds and microphone, tick both boxes.
You can also record from your microphone while only pressing the space bar, to do this tick ""Record External output" as well as ticking "[i]"Only capture while pushing"[i]

How to replace the audio of the video with music

This is a very simple thing to do, all you do is:
Select the Audio drop down menu.
Click on "Audio from other file".
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/1772163_orig.png
Select a audio file you would like to use in your video, press open
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/2817508_orig.png.
Now when you play your video it will use the Audio file's sound instead of the original video's audio.

Unreal tournament Audio Tips
Here is some basic tips so the audio doesn't become crackly or poor quality.

Make sure not to have Windows Volume on 100%, if its to high it can make the sounds quality poor and crackly, try something around 20-50%.

Have the unreal tournament Sound slider around the middle of the bar, same with the music bar if you are using it. If you want the announcer volume to be easy to hear you can use the bar all the way to the right of the bar.

Having the sound bar in the middle gives you the options, of having the music higher in your video, same with the announcer, so you can hear it better.

Video Settings
Convert/compress the fraps video file

This is just a basic tutorial of how to convert the file fraps creates, and convert it so it has decent quality and is not 40gb in size.

The first thing to do is to open the video file from the fraps movie folder, click FILE -> Open video file... then select the video file of your choice.

After you have done this we can change the video compression settings, click VIDEO -> compression -> and select Xvid MPEG-4 Codec.
You can change the configure settings if you want, but for this tutorial the default settings should be fine.

http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/1509920_orig.png
Now click ok.
Now all you have to do is save the file, FILE -> Save as AVI... then all you do is wait for it to process the file, and now the files size should be much smaller.

Changing the fps/Speed of your video
If you would like to speed up your video or slow it down, this is what you will have to do.

Select the Video drop down menu, and select "Frame rate...".
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/7717788_orig.png
Now Select "Change Frame rate to (fps)" Radio button.
If you want to speed your video up enter in a number >30 in the text field, or to slow your video down enter in a number <30.
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/1610501_orig.png
One thing I should mention is, it's best to use Audio from another file or no audio at all when doing this.

here is what 5 fps looks like.

Deleting parts from your video

How to Delete parts from your video.

There is two buttons you can use to select a frame as a starting point, and the other to select the ending frame.
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/2940875_orig.png

First thing you should do is move the slider along to the frame you want to start at and then click the left button of the two(see above), then move the slider to the last frame you want to delete and press the right button(see above). you should see that the slider is now highlighted the part you want to edit(see below), now press delete and it should remove the clip from your video.
http://www.weebly.com/uploads/7/2/7/0/7270302/4567020_orig.png

Adding Clips/ other video files
This is very easy to do:
Select File.
Click on "Append AVI segment".
Select the video file you would like to add, click open, now the video you just added will be added to the ending of your first video.

// I will finish this bit soon.

more coming soon.....

I will do some more tomorrow and add to this one.

Please post stuff below you want me to do.

Wow! Gotta try this out, and I indeed dislike fraps being such a hugh file maker that hog up the hard drive spaces! TY!

Some resources
Codecs.com : Download latest audio and video codecs, codec packs and tools, FREE! (http://www.free-codecs.com)

FFDShow CoDec can install a plugin for VirtualDub, and will give you access to many filter and output options (including XviD and DivX).
ffdshow tryouts | Official Website (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net)
Supports multiple CoDecs including MP4, Matroska, and FLV

Gspot CoDec information appliance (useful tool, can be used to change the preferred order of CoDecs).

VirtualDub extras
Useful screencapture and lossless CoDecs. Plus some of the best filters for fixing/cleaning video.

General tip for high-quality encoding in a smaller size. Use AVC 2-pass encoding.
Yeah it takes longer, but the quality difference is stunning.
Most MP4 derivatives such as DivX, XviD, Matroska and all H.264 variants are capable of it.
Nero Recode is one of the best and easiest conversion tools (if you have unlocked the CoDecs)

The ultimate convert anything to anything program has to be "Super" from eRightSoft.
I find some of the CoDecs can be a bit old, but it can be manually upgraded (with the help of Gspot) by those that know what they are doing.

Is there any way that stop the Virtual Dub creating darker video after compression? (I think this happened if the whole vid is mostly dark)

i never compress with virtual dub.... that helps with keeping the quality and brightness

I use sony vegas to put clips together and make a mini movie out of it, also use the video converter built in to compress add effects choose the video size etc etc

you could delete stuff from any program. Also if you either use Imovie, windows movie maker, or sony vegas they will all make your video size smaller and ect.

How about making tutorial of using other tools for vid editing... there are couple of them out there (UT movie maker?) but I'm not sure how they all going to work. Including special effects and so on. Hope to get this rolling again. :)

Well that would sucks. Would you like to give a few example of a fine quality vid editing and recording requirements? I might decide to buy a better PC in about a year or so.
CPU? Rams? Graphic card? (Don't need to worry about hard drive...) Anything else? lol... I know there is lots of choices, but just wondering. Would i7, 8GB of ram, and maybe 1/2 GB on graphic card would do good?

I'm not planning on doing any more stuff on video editing, i suck at it anyway. Plus when i'm not playing ut I would rather put in an extra hour learning php than make a tutorial.

We were discussing Video editing packages over at ut99.org
Unfortunately over the years, the requirements just to install or run the commercial software has become stupid.

I have used Pinnacle Studio 14 on a 32bit PC with 512MB of RAM, but I have seen comments from people with more RAM and multicore CPUs, that have found it resource hungry.

I still regularly use the recoding and editing packages from Nero 6, as the features are often more than I need.
If you don't need to be using loads of fancy effects, you don't need software so large it takes a fork-lift to operate.

I advise using smaller tools for smaller jobs.
VirtualDub is great for slicing and dicing a video, or just to extract a section (don't forget to use "Direct Stream Copy" if you are not trying to recode).

If you are making a music video style presentation you can get away with loads of effects and wipes, you will need something serious.
But if you are making something where you are trying to show the action in a way you can follow, you need to be more subtle.
In which case you only need something basic.
Often children feel the need to add loads of text though a video (often lyrics or telling you what you are seeing), but this just distracts the viewer from the actual content.

See my test example.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYvdee7Hjtc
I balanced a fancy font effect at the beginning with not over-using it, and the dissolve-fade in and out is the same, then a reasonably plain font at the end.
It was captured on my camera, as I wanted something watchable.
This was actually a test of Nero Video 6, and a couple of Youtube uploader tools (I'll grab the links)
SimpleJavaYoutubeUploader by dennisfischer (http://uploader.chaosfisch.com)
Free video soft: video converter, ipod converter, mp4 converter (http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software-download.htm)

I've been doing a lot of poking around looking for the ideal capture CoDec to use with whatever you capture with.
Other notable capture programs;
CamStudio CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software (http://camstudio.org)
PlayClaw PlayClaw : Game Video Recorder alternative, Game Screen Capture, Ventrilo Teamspeak overlay, Game Recorder (http://www.playclaw.com)
Movavi Screen Recorder Movavi Screen Capture - Record your Screen | Download Screen Recorder and capture video, games, websites, etc. (http://www.movavi.com/screen-recorder/)
ScreenVirtuoso Fox Magic Home: Capture anything you see on the screen! Convert, edit, publish and more... (http://www.fox-magic.com)

Sorry but I can't re-edit the post. I keep getting a 403 error.

I think the colour-space is being changed.
Check the in and out CoDecs have the same colourspaces, and/or check the conversion settings in the "Colour Depth" menu item on the "Video" menu.

Ok, thanks. The only downside from all of this is getting to know how to use the UI, what things do and what not lol. Would be taking some time so I'll hit you up for any question.

I've seen a lot of host purge / delete screenshots, images etc. You might want to update top post and manage the screenshots within the attachments section?
