How do I start playing Instagib and CTF matches?

Hi there,
I'm thinking of branching out from DM. Is it possible to just hop into an Instagib/CTF game or is it always set teams/matches? I don't really understand the pregame format,etc. Keep in mind, I would really suck at first and I don't want to piss too many people off!

Spectate some matches so you know the maps. It won't matter how much you don't want to piss people off, if you on't know the map, they will. Actually, people will be no matter wha you do so really you shouldn't worry...

don't waste your time by watching - just hop in and play. It's not about pissing off people. A public server is there to learn the mod and not to play competitively.
Make sure to follow the rules. Since you're coming from DM I'm gonna elaborate some stuff for you: don't chase people and shoot people in the back without a proper reason. A reason for that would be covering your flag carrier or returning your own flag - and of course if you're the fc yourself.
Defending is allowed but only inside of your base. Don't just stand in the middle of a map and deathmatch everything.
You can look up the rules on the server for further information. I think !rules lets them pop up? If not !open and look for the rules tab.

I think going to a no rule server will basically help for practice and stuff because if someone is new and don't understand the rules and keep getting banned somehow probably not gonna do much... so maybe hooking up with some clan to chat with and play together can really help if they have time and patience to show you everything and rules along the way after getting the basic down. Or join a pug on some irc channel but they have rules there too, and rules are different depending where you are playing at.. kinda overwhelming lol.

I remember someone once told me to join the ictf and just shoot (when I was new)... I couldn't just shoot cuz I'm a flag addict (wait what? lol) and go grab flag and cap and forget about shooting haha.
