New to UT, need help configuring settings!

Hello!

I've been a long time player of Quake, UT2004, but I recently got into UT99 (UT:GOTY) and I am having a few problems with the game. First of all, most of the servers I join will either kick me out, cancel the connection or ask me to download something, but I cannot download it, because everytime I press the download button, game closes. There have been only 3 servers I have joined so far and 2 of them disabled my HUD. So, there has only been 1 real game I've played of UT99. If there is any way to fix this issue with servers not allowing me to play in them, please help me out!

Also, are there any tips for someone like me? Maybe something I need to adjust in settings etc.? Please post, if there's something you can recommend.

That can depend on multiple factors, either your UT version, your custom mods or additions, or something third that probably is either related to user.ini changes or smth else.

Version 436. I also play it through Steam, if that changes anything.

Delete it and try a fresh install from : Downloads - UnrealTournament Siege, Bunnytrack, Combogib, Instagib, UT99 clan & Server Discussion
free full version available for windows or Linux
Also, maybe take a look at http://www.unrealkillers.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=2, multicore fix and some other stuffs you can need as DRD drivers, ACEv08h & NPLoaderv16b client files.......

Give it a try, better play UT with a free copy than wasting time to fix a fucked up one from steam .
Also look at Medor's link, to fix steam s one ...before trying our free install...

You can play UT through steam. It shouldn't be a problem. Can you post screenshots of errors or times when you are being disconnected and unable to enter? You need to be much more specific with your issues.

Thank you all for your assistance. I was going through some tutorials and patches and finally got it fixed. All of the servers work now! Can anyone give me tips on how to configure this game, so I get the best out of myself? Right now, I've been adjusting some settings, but it still doesn't feel like I can do my best on it.
