To be honest its exchanges like this that make people realise it's not 1999 anymore and they can play something else without having to abide by another's rules, which ultimately is what you want.
I'd say go play on another server, but you're a bit limited for choice. It's probably time to move on, this community is not friendly to "newcomers" and the idea that you don't abide by a form of gameplay that you psychically read from the powers that be.

Or, to put it simply, old games are full of twats who love having power, it's time to move on.
